How do I create passkeys? (app)

What are passkeys?

We now support Fast Identity Online (FIDO) passkeys as a two-factor authentication method. Passkeys allow you to enjoy password-free login without the need for verification codes while being the most secure option to protect your account.

Once the passkey feature is activated, at least one passkey must always remain linked to the account. You can reset the existing passkey or add a new one before removing any passkeys you no longer wish to keep.

Create a passkey

Please note that passkey verification methods may vary depending on the platform or service you are using. The passkey can be added from your phone's biometrics such as Fingerprint Unlock or Face ID, a USB security key, or from another device (for example, another phone). Follow the instructions provided during the process.

  1. Before you create a passkey, make sure you at least have:

    • A mobile device with iOS 16.0.0+ or Android 7.0+, or

    • A USB security key that supports the FIDO2 protocol

  2. Open the OKX app, go to menu, and select Profile and settings

  3. Find the Security in the User center and find the Security center

  4. Select Passkeys

  5. Select Enable and complete the security verification

  6. If you want to create your passkey with your current device, select Continue and complete the biometric authentication/PIN code on your device

  7. If you want to create your passkey on a different device, select Other Options

    • Select iPhone, iPad, or Android device

      • Use the other device to scan the QR code and complete the authentication

    • Select Security key (only available on iOS devices)

      • Insert your security key and follow the instructions to create your passkey

Verify with passkey

Here's how you can verify your passkey once you have enabled the feature:

Verify with your current device

  1. You'll be prompted to use passkey for verification

Verify with another device

  1. You'll be prompted to use passkey to sign in and select Other Sign In Options

  2. Select iPhone, iPad, or Android device and select Continue to get a QR code

  3. Use your other device to scan the QR code

Rename passkey

You can go to menu > Profile and settings > Security > Security center > Passkeys to rename your passkey to help you identify the passkey easily.

Reset or remove passkey

As a security precaution, resetting or removing a passkey may trigger a 24-hour restriction on withdrawals and P2P trading:

  • If you reset your passkey, the restriction will apply automatically.

  • If you remove a passkey without using another passkey to verify (e.g. using 2FA or facial verification instead), the 24-hour restriction will apply.

Reset passkey

If you only have 1 passkey linked to your account, you'll only see the Reset option. This is because your account must always have at least 1 passkey. When you reset it, you'll replace your current passkey with a new one during the process.

To reset your passkey:

  1. Go to menu > Profile and settings > Security > Security center > Passkeys

  2. Select the passkey you want to reset and complete the verification process

  3. If additional verification is required, the review process may take up to 24 hours. You'll be notified once it's complete

Remove passkey

You can remove a passkey only if you have more than one set up. If your account already has 10 passkeys, you'll need to remove one before adding a new one.

To remove a passkey:

  1. Select the passkey you want to delete

  2. Complete the verification process to confirm the removal

Note: removing your passkeys may potentially lower the security level of your account. It is highly recommended to consider the associated risks before proceeding.
